Today is second day of NaPoWriMo.The prompt today is to write a poem that plays with voice. For example, you might try writing a stanza that recounts something in the first-person, followed by a stanza recounting the same incident in the second-person, followed by a stanza that treats the incident from a third-person point of view. Or you might try a poem in the form of a dialogue, which necessarily has two “I” speakers, addressing two “you”s. Another way to go is to take an existing poem of yours or someone else’s, and try rewriting it in a different voice. The point is just to play with who is speaking to who and how.
Here’s my take on it:
Poem: Shades of Love
Diana, my dear, the love of my life
I am ecstatic about our rendezvous today
I wish to reveal my love to you
To disclose how desperately I miss you
To embrace you lovingly in my arms
To fondle and passionately kiss you
To feel the grace and warmth of your touch
To shower my immense love on you
I am so anxious to confront Jake today
I am skeptical of sharing my feelings for him
I must divulge his incongruity with me
I must admit my love has withered for him
I need to unveil our relation is no more sweet
I have to protest his derision of me
I wish to share my secret with him
I need to confess my love for Pete

Ouch, I feel so bad for Jake! I love how you approached the prompt, and that you shown something that happens very commonly.
You are right. It’s something that happens quite often so I thought of weaving words around it. Thanks for your lovely comment 🙂
