Today, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem in the form of a review. But not a review of a book or a movie of a restaurant. Instead, I challenge you to write a poetic review of something that isn’t normally reviewed. For example, your mother-in-law, the moon, or the year 2020 (I think many of us have some thoughts on that one!)
Review of my better half
True to his name ‘better half’,
He is better in only half of the things expected of him
I guess that’s the way this gender was designed to be
But never mind, no one is perfect, neither he nor I
Well, love, care, understanding and empathy, the roots that strengthen our relationship
He does strive to meet the standards but of course, he has his perspective-
As and when time permits him; or when he hears the bomb ticking
But never mind, no one is perfect, neither he nor I
A work alcoholic, I know he is, I gauged that from the day I first met him
But I failed to anticipate that the work was restricted to office bits
House admin, managing kids, or anything that’s out of gamut of office work- ever fits the bill
But never mind, no one is perfect, neither he nor I
But this fellow isn’t heartless, nor is he frugal or conformist
Always the first one to support kith and kin in need
He gives me all liberty even though idea is “Don’t bother me!”
But never mind, no one is perfect, neither he nor I
We’ve come a long way, sixteen years to be precise
We know each other’s pun, excuses and tricks
We argue, we squabble, but we lean on each other
So never mind, no one is perfect, neither he nor I
