Today, the challenge is to write a poem about a dull thing that you own, and why (and how) you love it. Alternatively, what would it mean to you to give away or destroy a significant object.
Your love letters A cool winter morning, when Sun decided to unwind When a gush of polar breeze chilled the world around Astounding colors of petunias sparkled among bright calendula An aura of romance or is it an air of nostalgia? Leaning on my recliner, I amass heat from hearth And fondle the warmth of your letters Yes, those memorable leaves of paper that expressed your love in words I behold in my hands, as I stand this cold weather Startled, aren’t you, To discern that I kept your love alive all these years? Amazed I am, To still breathe your fragrance from the ink of the text Sunshine in the storm, these letters have been for me The only way to feel your presence, from the moment you left me Do my feelings never reach you, for I often converse with these pages As I fondly seek to decipher, the intent of your words Alas, the dreadful moment has come, to part away from these words For our covert love, shall forever remain as such As none can understand, the purity of our love As I breathe my last, I surrender your letters to this hearth ©Vandana Bhasin 12.04.2019
