ALS NaPoWriMo Day 7 Prompt:
Today is World Health Day. And today being a Sunday, is a good day to talk about our health. Shakespeare said, “Our bodies are our gardens, our wills are our gardeners.” Even the great poet couldn’t refrain from harping on the value of good health. Show us your thoughts and beliefs about the health paradigm today– be it physical health, mental health or emotional health. Let’s show our support as writers in promoting the World Health Day. Happy Sunday to you all!
Mental Health is as important as physical health. I’ve written my poem as a conversation with God to reflect how to maintain mental balance in this fast-pacing superficial world.
Poem: Become Who You Are
Me:
I see an avaricious world around me,
Racing to ace the possession game–
The game of “I am better than you;
I own more than you; I know more than you!”
The Voice of God:
I created this world as a sacred place,
‘Materialistic’ is a term coined by humans,
For me, all my children are worthy as gem,
Know yourself well before emulating others!
Me:
I can’t see myself fitting in this pretentious chateau,
What’s precious for me is emotions and warmth –
A connect without pretense, boast or intent,
Acuity more valuable than hollow charade.
The Voice of God:
You are an essential part of my creation,
You were sent to follow your purpose on Earth,
Egotism and paraphernalia are a test of your perseverance,
Your road to eternity is not same as others!
Me:
The frivolity of the world perplexes my mind,
Their criticism and counsel unnerve me and confine,
I feel alone and petrified in this crowded human province,
Opinions and judgements weaken my spirit.
The Voice of God:
Why fear judgments, or get ambushed in foul traps?
Just follow the path lead by your heart,
You have all the answers within yourself,
No criticism can tarnish the luster you’ve wrought!
Me:
Fragmented I feel, inept at excelling all tasks,
Insignificant is my existence in this banal world,
I wish I could sever all the meaningless alliance,
And stand for what I feel and who truly I am!
The Voice of God:
Why mask yourself and who you are?
Don’t lament those bits that have fallen off,
Trust me, that’s me– helping you evolve,
For you to become, who you truly are!
