ALS NaPoWriMo Day 3 Prompt:
Our life is the result of choices we make, and also the ones we choose not to make, but we always have a choice. ‘To be or not to be’ is also a choice. Let’s inspire ourselves and others around us today around the thought that we always have a choice!
Here’s my take on the prompt:
Poem: I Refuse to Choose Fear
From resistance to acceptance, I travelled a great distance,
But I realized it was only a matter of choice–
A choice that freed me from my own binds
I was guarded by my thoughts, or so I thought,
Until I ascertained, I was trapped by choice–
Choice to be governed by restrictions of the mind
The storm of challenges callously uprooted me,
I allowed it to destroy until I crumbled–
Crumbled by the weight of my own decisions
Strength I always had, with choices infinite,
But I found myself obsessed to the one that was denied–
Denied so I could grow and learn to accept rejection
I chose to open the doors, especially the ones that were closed,
But the plethora that were open, I quietly chose to ignore–
Ignored the possibilities that awaited behind those doors
I ran amok in the world to prove my worth,
While I carried within myself, the entire Universe–
Universe that always shone the stars above my head
I harboured within myself, both angels and demons,
I surrendered to the demons in the face of uncertainty–
Uncertainty that orchestrated the dance of fears
A choice I make today; a promise to myself,
My choices will exhibit hope, not an ounce of rage or fear–
Fear too is a choice, and I refuse to choose fear!
