The challenge of NaPoWriMo today is to write a poem re-telling a family anecdote that has stuck with you over time. It could be the story of the time your Uncle Louis caught a home run ball, the time your Cousin May accidentally brought home a coyote and gave it a bath, thinking it was a stray dog, or something darker (or even sillier).
Here’s my memory of a family vacation 🙂
Poem: An amusing family vacation
In the summer of 1990’s
Almost three decades ago
My folks decided to visit
Some place that was cold
So they planned a journey to hills
Amidst snow, waterfalls and quilts
With three of their four kids
And booked a cab in a blink
But as soon as my cousins got to know
That we were going to enjoy some snow
What a ruckus they all created
And the plan got reformulated
So in a cab we all had to accommodate
As expense we couldn’t inflate
We were now six kids and three adults
And without a fuss we were told to adjust
We were stuffed in the car backseat
And it was difficult to breathe due to heat
But we laughed and giggled all the way
And it makes me smile to this day
