Prompt for ALS NaPoWriMo Day 12:
Who isn’t familiar with the void? No matter how occupied or successful we are in our lives, there are moments when our void becomes so loud that we are forced to respond. Have you experienced such times? How can one deal with it? Let your verses be our guide today!
Poem: An Oceanic Void
I stand amazed at its panache and grandeur,
Ocean – a repertoire of secrets
Gazing for hours, unburdening my heart,
I walk towards it; it embraces me gracefully
Splashing its water, mesmerised at its glory,
I immerse my consciousness in its depth,
I wanted to escape reality,
I wanted to submerge my past
An inner voice coerces me to plunge into the deep,
As if a dip in holy waters would absolve me of my sins,
Desperate I was to exterminate my past,
I dive in
I float, I sink
Becoming one with the sea
No thoughts, no fear, no pain, no shame
Is this what salvation means?
I come back to life, I find myself breathe
No thoughts, no fear, no pain, no shame
Did ocean exonerate me of days bygone?
I feel a void inside
A void deep as ocean,
A void in which I’m afraid I would sink,
A void that threatens to engulf me,
I feel bereft, I feel incomplete
My past is probably an inseparable part of me
No matter the lessons I learnt,
No matter the way I deal,
This void isn’t ever likely to fill in
