The challenge of NaPoWriMo for today is to specifically write a haibun that takes in the natural landscape of the place you live. It may be the high sierra, dusty plains, lush rainforest, or a suburbia of tiny, identical houses – but wherever you live, here’s your chance to bring it to life through the charming mix-and-match methodology of haibun.
I did a justice to the prompt by honestly writing about my vicinity and to my surprise, in the process, my affection to the place actually increased! The picture is actual view from my balcony taken at the time of posting this haibun 🙂
Haibun: Home Sweet home
One right turn on the highway leads to a society that prides itself with villas surrounded by little flora in and around it. I am a naturalist and nature invigorates me but there’s something about these brick and mortar houses that fascinates me all the time. Is it the beautiful park just opposite my house where I go for morning walks and can see numerous kids playing and swinging in the evening, while I pen down my thoughts in my room. The view in the park visible from my room refreshes my eyes and views, even when writer’s block hits me. Having spent fourteen years of my life in this vicinity, even the neighborhood dogs show their affection to me by waging their tail and discontinuing their incessant bark, when I stroll in the evening. And how can I forget that banyan tree that has been standing firm for years in the middle of the park while other trees witness withering of their leaves. I love the sight of parrots and sound of cuckoo in the morning while I keep waiting for a glance of the peacock that flows to my terrace in the rainy season. A few metres from the hustle bustle of the market and office traffic, this place had warmly greeted me after my wedding.

Awesome prose and haiku.
Thank you my dear 🙂
Its perfectly beautiful and encapsulates the sweetness of the place. You and the place you live in are intricately linked.
Hi Vandana , Thanks to you, today I learnt about Haibun !! Searched the net to explore this form of prose – poetry.
You wrote a lovely Haibun here. It’s a delight to read your posts.
Where do you get your poetry prompts on WordPress like this one ? is there a group I can join too and continue my learning journey ..?
Hey Vandana, I shall make a note of these points and go ahead .
Thank you so much for your time , your words and your help .
