NaPoWriMo Day 11: Today, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem about a very large thing. It could be a mountain or a blue whale or a skyscraper or a planet or the various contenders for the honor of being the Biggest Ball of Twine.
Also the prompt from SoulCraft is to write about a phenomenon you can feel but cannot see.
I have combined both the prompts.
Poem: An anecdote of how I met her
I see her sitting in one corner one day,
Just near the window,
Gazing at me,
I shun her
–
She quietly follows me like my silhouette,
Determined to make her presence felt,
Chasing me at every step,
I shun her again
–
Upset over things being said and unsaid,
I walk off with teary eyes,
She calls out to me,
I shun her yet again
–
Enveloped in fear and uncertainty,
Questioning my existence, I lay awake entire night,
She was hiding under my bed, I knew
I shun her again, or so I thought
–
I found her sleeping next to me,
Admiring me with adoring, caring eyes,
“I’m here for you, sweetheart,” she gently said,
I couldn’t shun her this time
–
She listened to me patiently,
No judgments, no questions, no assurance,
She wrapped me in her arms, and I knew, she was here to stay,
I didn’t want to shun her
–
I would spend all day with her, locked up in my room,
Just thinking about nothingness; wailing silently,
She would remind me of my failures and weakness; I would assent,
How could I shun her, she knew so much about me?
–
She assured me I was her world, so I left my world for her,
Dressing up, rejoicing, exploring the world, I renounced all for her,
“None cares for you, none loves you as much as I do,” she said,
So here I am, coddling her as she guards my emotions
–
My Depression and I,
We haven’t stepped out for eight weeks!
We have a long way to go,
Unless someone spots me with her…

Thanks for reading Harmony. Just creative expression ♥️♥️
Wow! Vandana. This is powerful and sad.
I hope ‘she’ steps out soon. This is dark territory. Help is only a call away. But ‘she’ needs to know that.

So beautifully expressed.
You handled the larger than life issue: Depression- the elephant in the room. Subtle, and painful and rings true for those who experience it. Well done, Vandana.
Thanks Smitha. It’s the most underrated and overlooked form of health issue and we need to keep talking about it to show acceptance for it. Thanks for reading. ♥️♥️
So very well written Vandana. A burden for so many people that is all too often hidden.
True Peter! You have put it aptly- a hidden burden indeed. Thanks for reading
