It’s the month of April and I’m here with my bouquet of poetry as NaPoWriMo begins today!
It have followed the early bird prompt, though I’m not early, I know
Here goes the prompt that I’ve followed for Day 1:
Early bird prompt:
Dickinson is known for her elliptical style, unusual word choices, and mordant sense of humor. Over the past year, I’ve experimented with writing poems based on, or responding to, various lines from her poems. Today, I’d like to challenge you to do the same! Here are a few lines of Dickinson’s that might appeal to you (the slashes indicate line breaks):
- “Forever might be short”
- “The absence of the Witch does not / Invalidate the spell”
- “If to be ‘Elder’ – mean most pain – / I’m old enough, today”
- “The second half of joy / Is shorter than the first”
- “To be a Flower, is profound / Responsibility –
Poem Title: “Forever might be short”
A stream of emotions runs through me
Love can no more be contained in the vessel of my heart,
It overflows,
Finding its way through my eyes
–
My yearning for you reaches its zenith,
I long for the warmth of your arms, which make me melt,
But I freeze,
As in the cool zephyr, I feel your kiss
–
I sense your fingers charting a course, gently caressing my body,
The rhythm of your breath creating a melody,
My heart waltz,
It knows, you are coming
–
A stream of emotions runs through me
Love can no more be contained in the vessel of my heart,
For love is now overflowing,
And forever might be short for our love!
