ALS NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 28 Prompt: Street signs
Let’s have some fun as we approach the finishing line of NaPoWriMo.
Let me take you to the street once again this month. Have you ever noticed the fun sayings behind trucks/buses/autos? Take a note of the street names, billboards, milestones, words behind vehicles etc.
Now you can use any one or more of these in your poem. Be creative and write a poem that makes us laugh, if possible.
Poem: The Power of Slogans
Life in a cosmopolitan takes you many a roads,
Or maybe the same road for hours in a row!
Being a numerophile, my eyes keep roving between number plates,
But hey! The billboards these days!
With brands contesting to draw attention,
They don’t refrain from weird quirky slogans.
From ‘Ye dil mange more’ to ‘aap aaj kya mangwaoge’
They even offer assurance by “Achhe din aayenge”
When you are rushing to office with no time for breakfast,
Life-size burgers decide to pop up,
Thank God, the mind decides to take over,
And controls the wheel before you knock your vehicle
And what is the deal of these toothpaste brands, huh?
Asking questions, if there’s salt, tulsi, turmeric in our dentifrice?
And boy, how that pan masala claims to make us king,
By reiterating, “kadmon mein duniya” in every line it screams
Some hilarious billboards, I crossed the other day,
“Genuine fake watches” was on the display!
And a tailor who could be mistaken as a doctor,
As his sign said, “alteration of ladies and gents!”
But these billboards have lifted my spirits some days,
A sign from Universe, I perceived on those days,
“Happiness is a choice,” was on the display,
And the other one highlighted, “See the change your change makes!”
So, next time on road, do look for some boards or signs,
Be it a sign from angels, or the one to make you smile
