With just one more day to go, our daily prompt (optional, as always) asks us to write a paean to the stalwart hero of your household: your pet. Sing high your praises and tell the tale of Kitty McFluffle face’s ascension of Mt. Couch. Let us hear how your intrepid doggo bravely answers the call to adventure whenever the leash jingles.
If you don’t have a pet, perhaps you know one or remember one who deserves to be immortalized in verse. For inspiration, I direct you to a selection from an 18th-century poem by Christopher Smart, Jubilate Agno, in which the poet’s praise for his cat ranges from “For he is docile and can learn certain things” all the way up to “For he counteracts the powers of darkness by his electrical skin and glaring eyes.” Personally, I’m lucky if my cat doesn’t just sleep the day away, but I find her pretty delightful all the same.
I am not a pet owner so I may not have done justice to the prompt 🙂
Meow Meow
Like a princess on her throne
She stances on my couch
Her snowy fur embellishes as a white gown
Leaping graciously to the door
She looks inquisitively with her emerald eyes
She lifts her paws and opens her mouth
The moment she spots a croissant or cake slice
A little innocent, somewhat more mischievous
She silently purrs to claim space in my lap
Looking up to me for a gentle pat
She wags her tail relishing meal of mice
Soaked in mud after a splash of rain,
Little kitty waltzs to her den in delight
She pounces as I squeeze her
Her whiskers augmenting her persona and poise
A bowl of milk garnished with loads of love
Would please the little animal leaps and bounds
A warm embrace dissipates my cares
The first one to wish me “good morning”
And the one who eagerly awaits my return at night
