NaPoWriMo Day 12: Waltzing to Life’s Rhythm

NaPoWriMo Day 12:

I’m calling this one “Past and Future.” This prompt challenges you to write a poem using at least one word/concept/idea from each of two specialty dictionaries: Lempriere’s Classical Dictionary and the Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction. A hat tip to Cathy Park Hong for a tweet that pointed me to the science fiction dictionary and to Hoa Nguyen for introducing me to the Classical Dictionary.

Artoonsinn Poetry Parlour Prompt: Write a poem based on the idea, “Let us go singing as far as we go: the road will be less tedious.”

I’ve chosen the words “Utopia“, “Dystopia” and “Completist” from Science Fiction dictionary and the word “Tigris” from the Classical Dictionary.

I’ve combined the prompt of Artoonsinn too so the poem revolves around the theme of music.

Poem: Waltzing to the Life’s Rhythm

A utopian world,

We wish would exist

But we live in dystopia

And dream to be a completist

–

Yes, we dream of a better world

And change the paradigm

So let’s sing our way through

Let’s dance at every mile

–

Music, they say, sanctifies our heart,

Appeases our mind,

Lifts our spirits,

Offers hope to our life

–

So keep flowing with cadence

Waltz at every crescendo

As a river flows in harmony,

Be it Ganges or Tigris

–

Let’s define ourselves

With each melody, each beat

Let music elevate us

Let it drizzle down the heat
