NaPoWriMo Day 23: Today’s prompt (optional, as always) asks you to write a poem about a particular letter of the alphabet, or perhaps, the letters that form a short word. Doesn’t “S” look sneaky and snakelike? And “W” clearly doesn’t know where it’s going! Think about the shape of the letter(s), and use that as the take-off point for your poem.
Here’s my take on it. I’ve chosen the word “Perseverance” which has 12 alphabets.
Perseverance: From ‘P’ to ‘E’
P – It all begins here, you see. “Patience,” it says you must have. You may start off straight but a curve you may soon face.
E – This fellow is always optimistic. If one door doesn’t open, he still doesn’t lose faith or energy. There are three tracks, you see.
R– He’s a spoiled brat. Every sack has a bad potato, you know. It starts away gently, moves through the curves but then wanders off, of course cribbing a lot.
S – This one is completely out of rhythm. It goes here, there, everywhere. Don’t trust this one. It seems to me an uneven island.
E– He’s an enthusiastic fellow, like I said. Don’t worry about him. There are still two more course ways left.
V– Very talented and rational he is. He doesn’t haggle much- either this way or that way, he believes.
E– He’s still hopeful. He has tenacity to explore more lanes.
R– A mischievous fellow, you remember. A little obstinate, a little offensive, kind of a hole in the ship; beware of him!
A– Aggressive, he is initially. He’s the ace you see, who begins the alphabet race. But good sense prevails; he has to traverse a long way. A new road it takes but doesn’t forget old ties. Finally, it links the present to past.
N– A revolutionist, an extremist! It goes up all the way, falls down like a steep mountain and then something propels him again and he surges all the way.
C– Courteous, compassionate, content is C; he’s an apple of the eye. Simplistic form (life), less expectations, he’s a true companion. You need more like him!
E – His optimism paid! He’s one cheerful fellow who took perseverance to the finish line. Perseverance has the power!
