NaPoWriMo Day 18: Our optional prompt for the day is to write an ode to life’s small pleasures. Perhaps it’s the first sip of your morning coffee. Or finding some money in the pockets of an old jacket. Discovering a bird’s nest in a lilac bush or just looking up at the sky and watching the clouds go by.
Having been confined to the house for last thirty days, the spectrum of happiness has revolved and evolved many times. But whatever its elements may have been, one thing always stood out- the little pleasures of our routine. This poem focuses on these little pleasures.
An ode to little pleasures
A gush of cool breeze never felt so invigorating
The way it caresses my skin these days
The chirping of the birds, I’d always heard
But it sounds more melodious these last few days
The Sun that pushes the morning clouds
Never felt so picturesque as it appears these days
Was the night sky always so illuminated?
Were these patterns of stars always so intriguing?
Did crescent moon always look charming like a bride?
Or the full moon evoke the passion at night
The trees look renewed, lush and breathing
Were they not living before quarantine?
Spring has set in; flowers are blossoming
Were they always so vivid, so kaleidoscopic and exquisite?
A sudden shower of rain, would earlier force me in
How I wish it could drench me, now when it pours
An hour of yoga, I’ve been practicing for years
How it never calmed my body, the way it does these days?
A meal cooked by someone; spic and span before I get up,
A few hours to myself; have made way to my little pleasures
A date with my gang of friends or a walk in the garden
Didn’t I take it granted all these years? Oh yes, it spices up
Even a three-course meal at our favorite restaurant,
Would now count as luxurious!
The world has changed, in every little way
And so have our little pleasures- our true measure of happiness!

A visit to the condo shop is as exciting as going to a mall!!
Such an optimistic portrayal of the present time!
