Today, the challenge is to write an abecedarian poem – a poem in which the word choice follows the words/order of the alphabet. You could write a very strict abecedarian poem, in which there are twenty-six words in alphabetical order, or you could write one in which each line begins with a word that follows the order of the alphabet.
Here’s mine abecedarian poem, though I found it a little restrictive but yet enjoyed writing it.
The sky is mine
A handful of sky, I wish we all had; my sky would be
Beaming with little things that offered me joy
Celestials to illuminate my night, my piece of Earth, my life
Difficult, does it seem, or diffident, should I be? I wasn’t sure
Excited I was, eager I grew, at the thought of this ecstasy
Fantasy, ever heard? Creative, dreamer, or a visionary, whatever you may call me
Granny then enquired, in her kind, sweet voice,
‘Honey, why do you want a handful of sky? The infinite blue is yours to claim; galaxy won’t mind; even the heavenly bodies await to
Illuminate your Earth, every day and every night.’
Jubilantly, I stared at the vastness of azure
Knowing that sky was mine to claim
Life found new purpose; dreams seemed attainable
Meaning of joys and pleasures redefined
New crests and pinnacles, I aspired to reach
Opportunities emerged out of nowhere
Positive outlook, was all I endorsed; procrastination, I needed to
Quit,
Rationale of existence and,
Sanctity of relations,
That became the truth to guide my subsistence.
Utopia is, where at peace, I feel; Earth, Sky or, some place in between.
Vacillate, I often, as
We all humans do, at the contours of time, facing challenges in the
Xystus called life
Yet
Zestfully, every day I stare, at the vastness of my sky!
