“As full of spirit as the month of May, and as gorgeous as the sun in Midsummer.”
-William Shakespeare
Finally a month of powerful writing is over and here comes the month of May with new spirits shining its way. Let’s take a closer look at this month and know a few of its trivia.
May was first named for Maia, the Roman Goddess of spring and growth.
May is one of the most beautiful months in the year. Nature is at its bloom and you can see vibrant flowers, lush green grass and fruit laden trees all around.
The last month of the spring commences with May Day and Labour Day and marches ahead with Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, Star Wars Day (Yes! that’s right) and Armed Forces Day.
May’s birthstone is emerald, which is emblematic of love and success.
May was once considered a bad luck month to get married (Oops!). Not just that, superstition further forbids buying a broom or washing blankets in the month of May! There is a poem that says, “Marry in May and you’ll rue the day”.
I wonder what could be the logic of abstaining from relationship and cleanliness at the same time!
Anyways, the month is celebrated for numerous reasons. To list a few:
- Barbecue Month
- Better Sleep Month
- Burger Month
- Electrical Safety Month
- National Golf Month
- Salad Month
- Salsa Month
- Better Hearing and Speech Month
- Skin Cancer Awareness Month
- National Smile Month (UK’s largest and longest-running oral health campaign)
- Water Safety Month
Believe me, there are many more, I just listed a few!
And now is the turn for our monthly theme.
After, traversing the journey of “Self-Discovery” in March and “Optimism” in April, I will be dedicating this month to “Focus”.
Yes! The theme for my monthly feature for the month of May is “Focus”, as it is critical for the attainment of success in life.
I shall be sharing with you my thoughts in the form of poems, articles, quotes, stories etc. on the theme “Focus” throughout the month and certainly, every Wednesday.
I look forward to your support, thoughts, comments and feedback, as always 🙂
Till then, stay focused and enjoy May!
Yup.. may is so special for me too
Nice
Thanks 🙂
May is my favorite month of the year. It is my birthday, my granddaughter’s birthday and my wedding anniversary. I can attest to it not being bad luck to get married in May. I have been married 45 years.
Oh wow! I am sure it isn’t..my three nieces have birthdays in this month as well my parents, my sister and my in laws anniversary. This is just a superstition 🙂 My best wishes to you.
National Golf Month, is it? Tha’ts interesting! 🙂 Thanks for sharing this. For me, this month is about blogging and writing. So 5 days into May and I finally managed to write something. 😀 Hope I can continue the self-imposed challenge.
Hey P. Good to see you around after a long time 😉 I am sure you’ll beat your challenge. All the best. And yes, I know your parents like Golf, rather I was thinking about them while posting this.
