ALS NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 10 Prompt: A poem about a classic/ famous fairy tale that unfolds as per your imagination
For today, recall some of the fairy tales you read/ heard in your childhood, or the ones you may have read out to your children or grandchildren. Did you really like the way the story was told? Would you like to change anything about it? Well, I’m sure the writer in you would like to tell it in his/her own way, isn’t it? So, go ahead and rewrite a fairy tale as you would like it.
Here’s my poem for the day!
Poem: The Tale of Rumpelstiltskin
A tale of deception and lies,
Rumpelstiltskin, I wish to rewrite
The miller blew his own trumpet,
The mighty King, he wished to impress
From straw to gold have you ever seen?
He boasted his gifted daughter could spin
The brilliant brown girl stood outright,
To his father, she confronted forthright
But king is king, how can he be refuted,
So to meet the king, the girl proceeded
I ain’t no magician, no gold I can spin
But Rumpelstiltskin is the alchemist, the girl announced with a grin
“Rumpel… what?” asked the king
“Rumpelstiltskin, Rumpelstiltskin,” the girl smiled
“He spins for those who can spell his name,
and not just spell, even pronounce,” the girl continued
The king tried to spell, but failed many times,
He pleaded the girl to make his speech right
The word spread around, Rumpelstiltskin was in town
But the King had now fallen in love with the girl brown
To amaze the girl, the King arrested Rumpelstiltskin
But a magician he was, he was out with a zing
Rumpelstiltskin threatened to capture the girl
Only his name could prevent her abduction
The King was perturbed, for say he still could not
But the girl no ordinary, screamed “Rumpelstiltskin”
“No one shall touch me, neither you nor the King!”
Bam! She knocked off Rumpelstiltskin!
The King pleaded the girl, he wished to marry her,
But she kept repeating, “I am my own alchemist!”
