ALS NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 8 Prompt: Ego and Love can/ cannot exist together
“Let’s dive into another week of poetry with the two most acknowledged emotions- love and ego. Do you think they can co-exist? Does love stand in the way of ego or vice-versa? What is ego? Let your experience guide your pen in deciding, “Ego and Love can/cannot exist together.”
I came up with two poems today. This is the first one!
Poem: Do You Identify With Your Ego
“Leave your ego at the door, before you enter my humble abode,” said Love
Ego said, “React! Hit the nail, don’t pause!”
For patience, it knows not
“Did I do that right? Did they mock at me?”
“Why should I ask? Why apologize?”
Ego can make you run amok, never let you dwell in peace
When your mind meanders to harness relations
Steering and manipulating to garner attention
Take a look inside yourself; Ego seems to have vanquished you
When you find faults with everything around you,
Yet nothing seems to fulfil you,
It’s pride crawling into your space; Like a parasite, it sucks you
It shapes and kneads what you stand for,
Molding your identity and who you are,
Indulging in the narcissistic games of blame; Ego always wants to win
Distant from love, compassion and relations,
Ego is the mother of all obsessions,
For Ego is the veil shielding you from light!
Ah! Your desire to control one and all,
The shame at failure, the strength of power,
It’s a mask glued onto your face; “I’m the ONLY one right,” Ego proclaims!
