ALS NaPoWriMo Day 18 Prompt: Use pairs of opposites in your poem.
I have used the following quote from Kahlil Gibran in my poem today–
“We are all like the bright moon, we still have our darker side.”
Poem: The Journey to Stillness
“We are all like the bright moon, we still have our darker side.”
We keep wandering in search of peace,
With heaps of hostility in our hearts to hide.
—
To feel connected with my true inner Self,
I disconnected from the flawed outer world,
As all the answers to my questions lay coveted inside.
—
A turbulence I witnessed when I peeked inside,
Layers of resentment, guilt and fear,
I had to peel away to experience stillness.
—
I had been nurtured with a compendium of beliefs,
The beliefs that I assumed as my identity,
How do I abandon those societal ideologies?
—
The mask of my identity that associated me with the world,
Distanced me from knowing my true inner Self,
Where was this Self obscured? How do I uncover it?
—
The Soul, the Self, the Being, the Awareness–
The journey began with a step towards stillness–
Stillness that paved the way to emptiness.
—
An emptiness inside, which led to fullness of life,
From the dungeons of darkness to an illuminated Self,
It’s worth initiating the journey to stillness.
